School of Paramedicine
Become a highly skilled emergency medical professional through the Tri-Rivers / Marion General Hospital School of Paramedicine. Designed for current EMTs, this nationally accredited program combines classroom instruction, simulation, and extensive clinical experience to prepare graduates for careers in advanced prehospital emergency care.

Program Overview
Class Schedule
Classes are scheduled 2-3 days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and are coordinated around students' duty schedules whenever possible. The full schedule is provided before the start of the program.
The Paramedicine program includes 900+ hours of training, consisting of:
- 500 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction
- 400+ competency-based clinical and field experience hours
Students build advanced knowledge and hands-on skills in:
- Advanced patient assessment
- Cardiac and respiratory emergencies
- Trauma care
- Medical emergencies
- Rescue operations
- Pharmacology
- Professional communication and leadership
- Critical decision-making in emergency situations
Upon successful completion of the program and the National Registry examinations, graduates are eligible for Ohio Paramedic certification.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants must:
- Complete the Paramedic Preparation Course, which includes:
- Learning Strategies
- Anatomy & Physiology I & II
- Medical Terminology
- Math for Medications
- EMT Knowledge Assessment
- EMT Skills Review and Assessment
- Submit a completed application and $95 non-refundable application fee
- Provide an official high school transcript or GED
- Hold current Ohio EMT-Basic or EMT-Intermediate certification
- Complete WorkKeys® testing with a score of 4 or higher in all three required assessments

Accreditation
The Tri-Rivers / Marion General Hospital School of Paramedicine is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
Essential Functions
Paramedicine is a physically and mentally demanding profession. Students must be able to safely perform essential job functions, including:
- Safely lift, move, and transfer patients
- Demonstrate fine motor skills required for medication administration and patient care
- Read medication labels, monitors, and medical records
- Hear heart, lung, and blood pressure sounds using appropriate medical equipment
- Clearly communicate in spoken and written English
- Exercise sound judgment in high-pressure emergency situations

Program Goal
