JOHN F. KREIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP


 

PURPOSE:

   To recognize a deserving full-time Tri-Rivers Career Center student for his / her school accomplishments with a financial award to assist in furthering their education in the field of his / her choice.

SOURCE OF SCHOLARSHIP:

    Priscilla Jo Kreis-Isaacs has established this fund with an initial contribution.  In addition, income from donations from family, friends and interested persons will continue to be received.

QUALIFICATIONS:

    Selection will be based on attitude, positive work ethic, pride in work, kindness, willingness to help others and teacher recommendations.  In addition, the applicant must…

A.      Be a full-time senior in a program at Tri-Rivers Career Center and taking his / her academic courses at Tri-Rivers

B.      Have maintained a 2.0 total GPA 

C.      Provide documentation of financial need

D.      Provide documentation of plans to attend a university, technical college or specialty training school after high school

E.      May receive an initial award to equal the amount of the year’s interest accrued, but not exceed $1,000, with subsequent awards of previous amounts per year to possibly be given until completion of degree, not to exceed a total of 5 years.  Subsequent awards are dependent on the applicant maintaining a good academic standing upon completion of a previous year or term in a university, technical college or a post-secondary specialty training school

F.      No more than one (1) recipient will be awarded funds

PROCESS:

A.      Contributions will be deposited with the Treasurer of Tri-Rivers Board of Education.

B.      Contributions will be invested in the normal process of all funds of the Board of Education.

C.      The interest only from the investment will be used for the scholarship disbursement.

D.      In the event that interest from the account exceeds $1,000 per year, the remaining interest will be added to the principle of the account.

E.      The application process will follow the standard format used by the Tri-Rivers scholarship selection process:

1.       Applicants must complete written application and submit appropriate recommendation forms

2.       Recipient will be chosen by a common scholarship panel composed of a Guidance Counselor, Academic Teacher, Trade & Industry Teacher, Work & Family Teacher, Vo-Ag Teacher, the Director, Alumni Member

3.       The scholarship panel will not discriminate on the basis of a person’s sex, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or physical or mental handicap.

4.       Scholarship award must be claimed within 18 months from the time of the award.

F.      The timelines for applications will be the same as the other Tri-Rivers scholarships.

G.     The initial award of 1 scholarship will be given for the Spring of 2008, followed by subsequent awards to same student for completion of each year or term, not to exceed a total of 5 years, in a post-secondary school.   

H.      The recipient of this scholarship will present a bill from the university, technical college or specialty training school.  Upon receipt of this verification, the Treasurer will issue a check which will be co-payable to the student and the school.  Each check can not exceed the amount of the bill.

I.         Following 3 years from the establishment of this scholarship, there will be a review conducted by founder, Priscilla Jo Kreis-Isaacs, to determine any adjustments to the scholarship’s process or disbursement of monies.
