This course is designed to prepare students with a basic entry-level course in health care in order to provide safe, direct care for clients in a variety of health care settings.

The successful candidate may achieve certification in Phlebotomy, EKG, Nurse Aide, Home Health Aide, and Coding and Billing. Certification testing fees are not included in the cost of tuition.

  • Application Procedure: A signed and completed application, $95 non-refundable fee (fee covers application and pre-entrance testing) and high school transcript or GED are required in order to sit for the pre-entrance examination.

  • Pre-Entrance exam consists of the ACT Workkeys test, which is a series of three tests evaluating basic academic skills of reading, math and locating information. Allow three hours for the pre-entrance exam time. Test must be scheduled in advance by calling 740-389-4682, Ext. 500.

  • $200 admission fee is due to hold your position in the program. Tuition is due prior to start of program.
  • All students must complete an FBI and BCI background check; due Sept. 21, 2009.

    Once accepted into the class, a physical examination is required. Mantoux test, 2-Step (TB test), Rubella, and Varicella immunizations are required. The Hepatitis B vaccine must be started. Physical forms are due on September 21, 2009. Immunization records are due the first day of class. Part-time students enrolled in only the Medical Administrative Assistant option are not required to submit a physical form.

  • In order to take the Certified Patient Care Technician exam issued by the National Health Career Association, the student must pass the State Nurses Aide Test, complete the approriate number of phlebotomy sticks and pass all courses.

  • *Testing with NHA is optional and not included with tuition.
  • Classes include, but not limited to Medical Terminology, Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy, Medical Billing and Coding, Home Health, Word, Computer Transcription, EKG,and Anatomy and Physiology.

Some classes may be taken independently. Phlebotomy and EKG will be open for LPN's and RN's as continuing education, based on availability

Transfer Policy for Patient Care Technician and Maintenance Mechanics
Students may opt to take any one or all of the classes in this program.

Due to employment and family commitments, some students may opt to complete the program over the course of two calendar years for a certificate.  Students who would like to do this, must see the program coordinator or counselor to outline a plan and sequence of courses.

Only students enrolled in all of the courses for one calendar year, qualify for Title IV financial aid.  All students must maintain 90% attendance in each course and satisfactory grades in each course in order to complete the entire program.  (See makeup policy)

Prerequisites are required in some classes.  Prerequisites or classes may be waived by showing evidence of successful training (official transcript) at another institution, testing out and evidence of skills competencies.  Call the coordinator of the program to arrange an appointment if you are choosing this option.

In order for a transfer student to be issued a certificate for this course from our school, a student must have completed a minimum of 400 hours at this school in this program.  Transfer students must follow the same procedures for admission as other students entering the full-time program.

Texbooks, certification examinations, FBI/BCI checks, lab work, immunizations, and physical exams are not included with the cost of tuition.


Other Supplies Needed or Recommended: Navy blue scrub pants and shirt; clean white tennis shoes, 12 #2 pencils, one 5-subject notebook*, 6 to 8 individual folders*, 5 black or blue pens, 3 highlighters of various colors*, 6 pakcs of 100 index cards*, 1 small tape dispenser*, 1 pack of 12 color pencils*, 1 box of tissues, 1 small white glue bottle*, 1 large white poster board, 1 large eraser*, and 1 bag/satchel for books*. *items recommended but not required.
